Grisactin

Grisactin is a drug aimed to treat fungal infections of the skin, fingernails, and toenails such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, jock itch, barber’s itch, fungal infections of the scalp. Skin lesions caused by yeast or bacteria cannot be treated by this drug.

General information
Grisactin is a drug that belongs to the class of antibiotics fighting with infections caused by fungus. It is aimed to treat fungal infections of the skin, fingernails, and toenails such as ringworm, tenia pedis (athlete’s foot), infection of the groin area (jock itch), barber’s itch, and other fungal infections of the scalp. Skin lesions caused by yeast or bacteria cannot be treated by this drug.
Directions
This drug is taken orally with full glass of water or simultaneously with a food intake. The appropriate dose recommended for adults is: p.o 500 to 1,000 mg micro-size (330 to 750 mg ultramicrosize) in single or divided doses taken for several weeks successively. The appropriate dose recommended for children: p.o 11 mg microsize /kg/day (125 to 500 mg) or 7.3 mg ultramicrosize/kg/day (82.5 to 330 mg). The duration of the treatment depends on a case. If a patient suffers from a body ringworn (tinea corposis) Grisactin is taken for 2-4 weeks; if it is a scalp ringworn (tinea capitis) – 4-6 weeks or longer; athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) – 4-8 weeks; onychomycosis (tinea unguium) – 3-6 months or longer.
Precautions
Before you start taking this medicine, you have to consult your doctor or chemist health care provider in case you suffer from such diseases as porphyria or acute hepatic insufficiency. You have to consult a doctor regarding your full medical history. You have to notify your doctor if you suffered from lupus. This drug may impair your alertness and reactions, so be careful while driving or with doing anything that requires you to be alert and exceedingly attentive. Limit alcohol beverages as it may interact with Grisactin causing hypertension and skin flushing. Avoid being under the direct sun, put sunscreen and protective clothes on when outdoors. Do not use Grisactin if you are pregnant, plan to be pregnant or breast feed without your doctor’s permission.
Contraindications
This drug is contraindicated to patients suffering from hepatic insufficiency, porphyria, or those who are hypersensitive to griseofulvin or any ingredient of this dug.
Possible side effect
Possible side effects usually include urticaria; face, lips, tongue, throat swelling; difficulty breathing, mycotic skin lesions such as thrush. You may also feel sick; experience retching; or diarrhea; headaches; vertigo; exhaustion; mental state confusion; sleep disorders; feeling of tingle; insensitivity. This drug may also negatively affect your menstrual period causing irregularity. If you suffer from any bothersome symptoms listed above, immediately seek medical help. Drug interactions
Grisactin can interact with a class of sedative and sleep-inducing medicines (barbiturate), estrogen, progestin and with a range of contraceptive pills containing other synthetic female hormones.
Missed dose
If you have missed your dose, take it as soon as possible. In case it is near the time for a next dose intake, avoid the missed dose and keep your ordinary dosing schedule. Avoid compensating a missed dose by taking an extra one.
Overdose
Overdosing may provoke such symtoms as nausea, retching, persistent diarrhea, headaches, mental state confusion, prickling, and insensitivity. In case you suffer from any bothersome symptoms listed above, you must immediately consult your health care professional.
Storage
This medication is stored at room temperature between 59-77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture, kids and pets. Do not take it in case the expiration date is over.
