General information
Medrol contains active ingredient Methylprednisolone which is a synthetic glucocorticoid medication used to treat such conditions like allergies, asthma, arthritis, certain skin conditions and blood disorders. It decreases inflammation influencing on immunity response of the body.
Directions
Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor with or without food. In case if problems with stomach occur Medrol should be taken with food to decrease its negative effect on it.
Precautions
Before to take Medrol inform your doctor if you are pregnant or going to become pregnant, breastfeeding, have serious problems with heart, heart attack in history, high blood pressure, problems with kidneys or/and liver, diabetes, thyroid gland, adrenal glad. In case you have or have had any infection, herpes of the eye, measles or shingles, chickenpox your doctor should be aware of it. As Medrol can influence mineralization of the bones warn your doctor if you have weak bones or problems with muscles.
Contraindications
You should consult your doctor before to take this medication. Do not use it if you are allergic to Medrol or its components. Do not take Medrol if you are treated with mifepristone. In case you have systemic fungal, viral or bacterial infection you should not take Medrol. If you will be vaccinated for smallpox, do not take Medrol as well. Other contraindications include myocardium infraction, high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, serious kidney or/and liver dysfunction, osteoporosis, blood coagulation failure, mental disorders, ulcers in intestine or stomach.
Possible side effect
You should seek for medical attention immediately if you have severe allergy like hives, rash, swelling of face, lips or tongue, black or bloody stools, changes in menstrual period, fever, increased hunger, thirst, changes in mood, pain in muscles, seizures, vomiting, dizziness, headache, unusual bleeding, vomit looking like grounds of coffee, changes in weight, flatulence.
Drug Interactions
Such medications as carbamazepine, barbiturates, hydantoins, lithium, rifampin decrease effects of Medrol. Medrol increases risk of side effects if taken with aspirin, live vaccines, mifepristone, or ritodrine. Adverse effects on nervous system become more severe if Medrol is taken with troleandomycin, erythromycin, clarithromycin, cyclosporine, prepitant, diltiazem, itraconazole, ketoconazole.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include swelling, protein in the urine, high blood pressure, arrhythmia, problems with heart. If you consider that you took too much of this medication look for medical help immediately.
Storage
Store the medicine at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Store it in a tight container.
